Overview

A free app for web and Android with one job: give you one focused reading lesson a day, chosen for you from classic public-domain books. Every lesson ends with a few takeaways, and each idea is traced back to its source. You can use it in your browser or install the Android app, with iOS planned for later. Built with React Native and Supabase, with background workers that prepare each day’s lesson.

Challenge

Most learning apps rely on streaks, quizzes, and notifications that push people back in. The app needed to deliver a daily lesson that feels calm and complete, and keep the content and database reliable as lessons are prepared in the background.

Approach

Built with React Native and Supabase, with background workers that prepare lessons. The database schema lives in versioned migrations, and every SQL file is validated with PostgreSQL's real parser before it is applied. Each lesson ends with takeaways, and each idea is traced back to its source.

Solution

A free Android app with subject selection, a saved reading position, daily 15-minute lessons, sourced takeaways, and a gentle streak instead of quizzes.

Results

  • One focused 15-minute lesson a day, chosen from public-domain classics
  • Every idea traced back to its source
  • Reading position saved, with no quizzes or guilt-driven notifications
  • Versioned database migrations, checked before they are applied
